The most common sizes are 1:64 scale and 1:24 scale.  These replicas get as close as they can to the original cars balancing an affordable price point.  The most popular manufacturer is Lionel NASCAR Collectables (formerly called Motorsports Authentics), though there is a new diecast developer this year called Checkered Flag Sports.  Take a look at some of the cars by clicking a NASCAR driver on the left - you should be able to see the level of detail in the paint schemes, and when applicable, in the chassis and engine.  Some NASCAR diecast replicas have hoods that open (HO), some have both opening hoods and trunks (HOTO), and some don't have any opening parts at all (typically the smaller 1:64 scale diecast).  The price of these cars depend on the size and detail you'd like to collect.

Deciding on a NASCAR Diecast Scale

Many people collect the larger 1:24 scale NASCAR diecast cars because of the level of detail. These are beautiful pieces for sure. The up-side is that these are easily the most impressive, and more collectible of the group.  They are great to show off, too.  But for others, the size is too much.  For these collectors, 1:64 is the ideal scale because you can easily fit more in a display case or on a shelf.  For some, 1:64 is a better option because of the price, especially if a collector has a few favorite drivers with a lot of different paint schemes through the years.  If you're a bargain hunter, and shop for cheap NASCAR diecast, the 1:64 scale is often a great option for you - it balances detail and scale perfectly.
